Kennedy Nzechukwu vs. Shamil Gaziev

UFC Fight Night · August 22, 2026 · Golden 1 Center

What kind of fight is this?Striker vs. Pressure FighterFinish likelihood: Very High

Twenty-two of the combined twenty-eight wins between these two are finishes, and both men absorb more punishment than they should. Gaziev's chin has failed him twice in a row, and Nzechukwu is exactly the kind of long, heavy-handed counter striker built to test it again. Gaziev's path is early pressure and grappling before he slows down, because his takedown defense and first-round violence are real. Expect Nzechukwu to weather the opening surge and land the fight-ending shot somewhere in the first two rounds.

This is a heavyweight crossroads fight between two men coming off bad stretches, and somebody's slide is ending violently. Nzechukwu holds a five-inch reach edge and the more dangerous long-range weapons, while Gaziev wants to close distance, pressure, and land the overhand before his gas tank becomes a factor. Gaziev has now been knocked out in consecutive fights, and walking forward into Nzechukwu's southpaw counters is a risky way to rebuild confidence. Neither man is likely to look for a decision, and neither has shown much interest in coasting.

Kennedy Nzechukwu

African Savage

Kennedy Nzechukwu is a 6-foot-5 Nigerian heavyweight with an 83-inch reach and ten knockouts to his name. After an up-and-down run at light heavyweight, he moved up a division and immediately looked scarier, stringing together three straight finishes before his current rough patch. A heel-hook loss to Valter Walker and a rare unanimous draw with jiu-jitsu legend Buchecha have stalled his momentum. When the fight stays standing, though, his length and power make him a nightmare for slower heavyweights.

Shamil Gaziev

Shamil Gaziev is a Dagestani-born heavyweight representing Bahrain who came into the UFC undefeated with a reputation for smashing people early. Twelve of his fourteen wins are finishes, most inside a round, built on forward pressure and heavy hands. The last year has been brutal, though: back-to-back first-and-second-round knockout losses to Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Brando Pericic have put his durability in serious question. At 36, he needs a win in Sacramento to keep his roster spot conversation alive.
